Rebar¶
The Rebar console enters almost any combination of bar and structural steel: whole bars, cut-and-bent pieces, assembled cages, lattice girders and even fabrication profiles. Nearly everything is sold by the kilo (from the calculated weight); only whole bars are priced per bar.
The grid¶
Each row is a steel element. The main columns:
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| ID | Identifier of the piece or cage. Rows with the same ID form one cage. |
| Type | The piece category (BAR, BEAM, COLUMN, BORE PILE, FOOTING, CUT AND BEND…). |
| Qty | Number of pieces (or of cages with this ID). |
| Element | BAR or STIRRUP. |
| No. | Number of elements per piece (e.g. number of bars, or number of stirrups). |
| Total | Qty × No. (calculated). |
| Gauge | The steel gauge (e.g. 10.0, 12.5, 4.2; H8 for a lattice girder). |
| Description | The shape of the piece. Opens the shapes window. |
| Length (cm) | Cut length, calculated from the shape. |
| Weight (kg) | Calculated automatically. |
| $/kg | Price per kilo. |
| Variation | Surcharge or discount against the pricelist price, in %. |
Grouping elements into a cage
To build a cage (a beam, a column, a footing…), enter each bar and stirrup on its own row using the same ID. The program understands they all belong to the same cage and repeats the Type and Qty automatically.
Straight, loose bars¶
Whole bars are sold per bar, at the pricelist price.
- In ID, give it a name (e.g.
BAR1). - In Type, choose BAR.
- Enter the Qty (number of bars).
- Choose the Gauge (e.g.
10.0).
The Weight and Subtotal are filled in automatically. Being a whole bar, there is no length to set.
Cut and bend (shapes)¶
Cut-and-bent pieces are bars cut and/or bent to measure, sold by the kilo.
- In ID, give it a name (e.g.
CB1). - In Type, choose CUT AND BEND.
- Enter the Qty. If the pieces are tied in bundles, use Qty for the number of bundles and No. for the pieces per bundle — the Total is calculated (e.g. 20 × 10 = 200).
- Choose the Gauge.
- In the Description field, press
ENTERto open the shapes window. Move between shapes (first / previous / next / last), click Select and enter the dimensions asked for (bends, length, diameter…). Click Insert to finish.
Irregular shape
If no shape fits, use Irregular shape to describe the piece freely.
Stirrups¶
A stirrup is an Element of type STIRRUP within a cage.
- On a row with the same ID as the cage, choose STIRRUP in the Element field and select the stirrup's Gauge.
- In the No. field, the Stirrup window opens: enter the Stirrupped length (cm) and the Spacing (cm). The No. of stirrups is calculated automatically — and you can adjust it if you wish.
- Set the stirrup's shape from the Description, as in cut and bend.
Lattice girders and others¶
- Lattice girders: enter as a bar (choose BAR and the girder's gauge,
for example
H8— the standard length is assumed) or, for a specific length, as cut and bend. The gauge identifies the girder to the customer. - Flat bars, tubes and angles: enter as a bar (choosing the profile in the
Gauge, e.g.
C 3/8" x 1") or as cut and bend.

Fast Rebar¶
To assemble simple cages (straight bars, with or without bent ends, and rectangular stirrups) more quickly, use Fast Rebar, on the Rebar button's menu.
- Choose the Type (BEAM or COLUMN), give an ID and the Qty of cages.
- In the Bars section, fill in each bar type: No. of bars, Gauge,
left bend (L.Bend), Length and right bend (R.Bend). Use the
Shape button (
+/−) to flip the orientation. Each cage takes up to three bar types. - In the Stirrup section, enter the Gauge, the dimensions, the Stirrupped length, the Spacing and the No. stirrups.
- Click Insert. The cage is entered in the grid, with weights, stirrup counts and cuts already calculated.
Use TAB to move forward and SHIFT+TAB to move back between fields. To add
more items to the same cage, repeat the ID.
Price per bar or per kilo¶
On whole bars, editing the $/kg opens the Price window, which converts between Price per bar and Price per kg: enter the price whichever way you prefer and the other is calculated.
